Hang out our banners on the outward walls,
The cry is still, “They come!” Our castle’s strength
Will laugh a siege to scorn…
– Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 5
In the UK – where I live – there is a saying: “An Englishman’s home is his castle.”
It’s debatable whether this is still true, but housing is the foundation on which all other aspects of our lives – family, health, education, career, etc. – rest. Without a place to live it is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve in any other area of life.
The conversation about housing in the UK is, therefore, a conversation for us all; it is our castle, and UK housing policies will determine our castle’s strength.
I’m just hanging out some banners.
